From PATRICK AKPUH, Ibadan
No fewer than 10 persons were yesterday burnt to death along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in a ghastly motor accident involving two trucks and an 18 seater bus.
According to Oluyole Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sanya Adeoye, who confirmed the incident, four people survived the mishap while 10 were burnt beyond recognition. Their bodies, he also confirmed, had been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary on Ring Road in Ibadan.
In his account of the incident, the Ibadan-bound Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number BDG 767 XB had stopped for one of the trucks with registration number SW 175 EPE coming out from NSCE Quarry when another truck rammed into the bus from behind and smashed it against the truck in front, thereby getting sandwiched between the two trucks.
As at the time of filing this report, efforts were being made by the FRSC Unit Commander to reach out to families of the victims through the driver’s manifest which was not burnt.
