Three members of the robbery gang escaped.
The Ogun State Police Command on Friday killed four armed robbers during a gun-battle.
The bandits had allegedly earlier stolen two cars from their owners in Lagos and were headed to Sango-Ota, Ogun State for another operation at a bureau-de-change, according to the police, when they were stopped.
The police said that its Special Anti-Robbery Squads, SARS, had laid siege for the robbers following a tip-off. The robbers, on sighting the police, opened fire which was returned by the security agents.
Four of the thieves were killed while three escaped in a stolen car.
The deceased robbers were identified by the police as Kehinde, Ismaila, Sunkanmi and Saheed.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, while addressing journalists, said the feat could be attributed to community policing, which the police would continue to promote.
He assured that the robbers who escaped would be arrested at all cost. He said exhibits recovered from the gang included guns and ammunition; and that investigation was ongoing.
