Hundreds of residents of Ijebu-Igbo in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, who were affected by the recent rainstorm had received various relief materials from wife of the state governor, Mrs Olufunso Amosun and a cash donation of N1 million from the state government as part of measures to cushion the effect of the natural disaster.
Inspecting the affected areas of the rainstorm at Oke-Sopen and Atikori, Mrs Amosun, who was shocked by the extent of the damage, expressed sympathy to the affected people.
While distributing the relief materials to the affected people, Mrs Amosun explained that the relief materials were to assist the victims of the rainstorm to take care of their immediate needs.
She noted that the welfare of the people was paramount in the agenda of the present administration in the state and it would always do its utmost best to ensure it creates conducive environment for the people to live.
She added that the relief materials jointly donated by the state government and Mrs Amosun’s Uplift Development Foundation would go a long way in supporting the affected people.
Over 3,000 displaced victims benefitted from the items which include clothing materials, school sandals, school bags, baby products, food items, mats, bed sheets, towels, ankara fabrics, slippers, among others. While pregnant women, aged people, youths and children were not left out.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state, Chief Olajide Osifeso commended Mrs Amosun for her continuous readiness to help the needy in the society, saying the singular action she took to assist the people showed her commitment to improving the quality of lives of the people of the state.
In her remarks, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Fatimo Rashidi expressed appreciation to the wife of the governor for her kind gesture and yielding to the call of the people who were mostly underprivileged, praying that the Almighty God would continue to bless her and her husband, Governor Ibikunle Amosun as he steers the ship of the state.
