Ahead of the April 5, 2014 House of Representatives Bye-Election for
Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency in Ondo State, over 500 members of the ruling Labour Party (LP) and opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ese-Odo council area have decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Among those who defected to PDP at a rally in Arogbo town, include the immediate past vice-chairman of LP in the council area, Dr. Jimoh Tufaweh and chairmen of LP and APC in Arogbo ward 1, Martins Gbamila and Bunibogha Womu, respectively.
Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger-Delta Affairs/ chairman, Presidential Amnesty programme, Hon. Kingsley Kuku as well as governorship candidate of PDP in the October 20, 2012 Governorship Election
in the state, Chief Olusola Oke were on ground to receive the defectors.
Other LP and APC leaders in Arogbo wards 1,2 3 that joined PDP at the Arogbo rally that witnessed a large turn-out of people of the coastal town
were; former APC youth leader in Ese-Odo LGA, Egbemotei Ojujo, Monde Ajaebi, Mrs. Maria Ajala and over 240 members of APC in Arogbo wards 1,2 3.
The list also include former deputy leader of the Legislative House of
Ese-Odo LGA, Raphael Osuyai; unit leader of LP, Owei Yanyangbinni; a
founding member of LP in the council area, Olateh Olowu, Mrs. Joy Ogo-Oluwa and about 260 other members of LP in the three wards of Arogbo town.
Addressing the gathering, Presidential Adviser on Niger-Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, who hail from Arogbo town, challenged the Labour Party led state government to point to just one project it had executed in the town since the last six years, stressing that Arogbo people enjoyed unprecedented dividends of democracy from PDP government under late Olusegun Agagu’s leadership.
“When Dr. (Olusegun) Mimiko took over in 2009, I told him to turn Arogbo to mega city; but I never knew that I would be the person that will make Arogbo a mega city as Presidential Adviser. I don’t know what LP can offer us again.”
Kuku said further; “Today, we have come back to this Federal Constituency and we will win because this is the best Federal Constituency of PDP in Ondo state.
“Let me give you an analogy; In 2011 Presidential Election, the whole Ondo State produced about 358,000 votes but Ilaje/Ese-Odo alone recorded over 100,000 of the total votes. What that means is that the two council areas produced almost 50% of the votes the President and PDP got in the whole state.
“What that shows is that the LP that claimed to be lover of Mr. President and PDP in Abuja did not support the process that produced those votes because if it did supported us, we could have gotten about million votes since President Goodluck Jonathan was adopted by the LP.
“I think what they simply did was to stay away from the poll and we (PDP) did the election in 2011.
“I believe the LP that has claimed to love Mr. President should work for this
party at this point; we enjoin them as lovers of Mr. President and the PDP at the level of Abuja; we enjoin them as people who are collaborating and working hand in hand with PDP at the National Assembly. They must understand the importance of this one seat for PDP at the National Assembly.
“It’s a critical seat that will increase the members of PDP in the lower
chambers of the National Assembly and it will help Mr. President better and I know that Governor Olusegun Mimiko has said it times without number that he is a lover and friend of Mr. President.
“I am using this medium as Mr. President Adviser to acknowledge him (Mimiko) as a friend of Mr. President, hitherto, the PDP. He should reduce the calamity in the National Assembly by co-operating with PDP and let this Federal Constituency reproduce itself and not to repeat the deceit that
happened in 2011.
Other leaders of PDP at the Arogbo-Ibe rally included; the PDP candidate for the April 5 Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency Bye-Election, Emola Olawale Kukute; former chairman of Ese-Odo LGA, S.A Yayuh; a member of Ondo
State House of Assembly for Ese-Odo State Constituency, Hon. Akpoebi Lubi and Mr. Ife Iji.
