The camp of the Labour Party(LP) in Ondo East/West local government area, the hometown of Governor Olusegun Mimiko became depleted at the weekend as scores of the ruling party members defected to the All Progressives Congress of Nigeria [APC].
The defectors were led to the APC by former Ondo East local government Party Secretary, Simeon Folasiyan and a House of Assembly Aspirant, Hon. Ralph Akinrolabu.
They said they had decided to pitch their tents with the opposition party to show to the whole world that indigenes of Ondo kingdom are not in support of the alleged maladministration of the present government led by Mimiko.
Receiving the defectors at a grand reception in Ondo kingdom, the Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on Environmental and Sanitation, Mr. Bola Ilori said the people were moving to APC due to the present hardship in the State and to also show their love for the APC.
“We should have done the ceremony long time ago, but the people shifted the event to today [Saturday] so that they would be able to celebrate the birthday of APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom they have described as an icon. That is why we have this huge crowd of Ondo people dancing and singing”, he stated.
Ilori charged governments at all levels to make a determined effort to tackle the issue of unemployment, stressing that if any emergency issue arises in the country, it should be because the youth are not engaged.
He said “Issue of unemployment has become a major problem in this country, most government; including Ondo State government must be determined to address the emergency. There must be massive engagement of our youth.
” We are appealing to every governments at all levels to make a determine effort to engage the Youth. There is dignity in labour, no matter how. You can see what state like Osun is doing. It has engaged 40,000 youths; that may still not be the best, but it is a good effort and a good starting point”
