Osun State Police Command has begun investigations into the last Saturday’s killing of Pa Taiwo Ogundele, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart in Ile-Ife, who was assassinated at the back of his house in Okiti area of the town.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu. who disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Osogbo, assured that the killers of the politician would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Maishanu, who stressed that the police were on the trail of the killers, stated that the murder of the politician would not be kept under the carpet, saying the police would ensure that the killers were fished out in no distant time.
The police boss said full investigation had commenced into the case, adding that arrest had been made in connection with the incident. He said those arrested would be prosecuted soon.
His words: “Contrary to claim by the family of the deceased politician, the killing was a pure murder case and not a politically motivated assassination as it was not done at the polling booth, but at the back of the deceased house in Ile Ife.”
He stated that the August 9 governorship election in the state would be peaceful, saying policemen from the neighbouring states would join those in the state to ensure peaceful conduct of the poll.
