The Ondo State Police Command has paraded 31 suspects who allegedly engaged in cases of robbery, kidnapping, murder, cultism and stealing.
The suspects were paraded at the command headquarters located on Igbatoro Road, Akure by the Commissioner in charge of the command, Mr. Isaac Eke, who also addressed his maiden press conference.
According to the breakdown of the arrested suspects, 10 were arrested for kidnapping; four for robbery; four for stealing; seven for murder and cultism, while one person was arrested for illegal weapon factory.
Among those arrested for kidnapping was a pastor, Okpara Emmanuel of Believer’s Prayer Ministry, Owerri, Imo State.
Eke said the pastor was arrested along with seven others when detectives were led to Owerri by one Chinonye Anufor, after a case of a two-year-old girl was reported at Okuta Elerinla, Division, Akure.
The commissioner the socks of the kidnapped girl, her pair of canvass and about 15 SIM cards with eight assorted type of phones were recovered at the pastor’s house. He said the pastor has confessed to the crime, adding that the involvement of the other suspects would be known during investigation.
For the second case of kidnapping, Eke said one Gasiakpo Niakpo, 28, a student of Niger Delta University was arrested along Ajagba/Agadagba Road in Ese Odo Local Government area of Ondo State.
Niakpo was said to have conspired with others and kidnapped one Adekunle Olanrewaju, who is a student of Leed City University, Ibadan but currently on teaching practice Methodist High School, Expressway, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Eke said while suspect had confessed to the crime, a Toyota Solara car was recovered from him just as three others escaped into the bush, He said the case file would soon be transferred to Ibadan, Oyo State command for further action.
