A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) in Osun State, Mr. Tunji Oyelade, who recently escaped assassination attempt, after he was shot in his house in Inisa, Odo Otin Local Government Area of the state by some yet-to-be identified men at the weekend is dead at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
A close family member told THISDAY that the late politician died as a result of gunshot injuries he sustained after the suspected assassins laid siege at his residence and attacked him and his wife.
The source also noted that Oyelade underwent series of medical procedures to extract bullets from his stomach at LAUTECH before he finally gave up the ghost on Friday.
Two masked men had attacked the residence of Oyelade in Inisa town last week Wednesday evening and shot him in the stomach.
After Oyelade had been shot twice, his wife, who was also in the house when the attacker came in, had her mobile phone seized and was tied while the operation lasted.
Oyelade’s neighbour, simply identified as Muritala who heard disturbing noise and rushed to the scene when Oyelade was shot, was equally shot in the leg.
Some of Oyelade’s family members claimed his attackers did not steal any property from his house other than his wife’s phone which they seized shortly after they entered his house, thereby concluding that the incident was not armed robbery but assassination.
The late Oyelade, who was also known as ‘Abincin’, earlier this year, defected to LP with his former Secretary to the state government (SSG), Alhaji Fatai, from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alongside the former Secretary to the Osun State Government, where he served as transition committee chairman before a substantive chairman was elected during the recently concluded congresses of the party.
