The Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Wasiu Kunle Olatunbosun, in this interview, disclosed that his programmes were aimed at transforming the local government area. Excerpts:
How has it been running the affairs of the local government as chairman?
First and foremost, let me say thanks to Almighty God, it is God that fixes one in any position. He alone ordains things to happen the way He wants without entertaining any criticism whatsoever from anybody. I really appreciate God for deeming it fit to make me the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Olorunsogo Local Government. Let me also express my immeasurable gratitude to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, for the trust he reposed in me by appointing me the chairman of this council. To your question, I thank Almighty Allah for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of the Local Government Area. As the chairman, it has actually not been easy; we are nonetheless trying our possible best within the limits of our finances to impact meaningfully on both the people and staff of the local government. Aside from the payment of salaries and other allowances, we have also made tremendous impact in the payment of car refurbishing loans to deserving members of staff and we hope to do more on staff welfare in the subsequent months. I am happy to inform you that there is a harmonious working relationship between political office holders and the whole lot of career officers; I thank them for their support. I also thank the good people of the local government area for their unflinching support and cooperation at all times.
What have you been able to achieve since coming on board a few months ago?
Well. It is not about how long, but how well! Since coming on board, I have in partnership with other members of the caretaker committee been able to accelerate works on the construction of Executive Chamber within the local government premises; the complex is an architectural masterpiece. When finally completed, it will go a long way in reducing the problem of office accommodation. Again, the main market, that is Ojaoba is already choked up, we therefore deemed it fit to construct another market specification for yam and allied products, so that traders from far and near can have access and buy goods without tears, the construction is currently going on on a large expanse of land acquired by the local government, the market is going to be an ultra-modern market with state of the art facilities such as modern stalls, VIP toilets, boreholes. Infact, we are determined to ensure the completion of the market. For now, the lock-up stalls at the market have been completed and waiting for commissioning. Since coming on board too, we have participated actively in programmes and services that have direct impact on the lives of the citizens, such as health, education, agriculture, wealth creation, cultural promotion, poverty alleviation, road rehabilitation and youth empowerment among others. We also maintain good rapports with our traditional ruler, the Onigbeti of Igbeti and members of Olorunsogo Local Government Traditional Council. Let me also add that when I came on board, I ensure that all on- going projects I met on ground were monitored to a successful completion.
What is your take on the second term ambition of Senator Ajimobi?
The governor is a bonafide citizen of Nigeria and under the Nigerian constitution; he is qualified for two terms in office. Honestly and sincerely speaking, we want Senator Abiola Ajimobi to replicate and extend what he has done and what he is doing in his first term to the second term, because he has indeed lived up to the expectations of the people. the achievements are numerous such as; construction and completion of modern market at Scout Camp, the Mokola Flyover, the Restoration bridge, the O-YES scheme, eradication of violence, maintenance of peace and security, giant strides in the education sector, health sector, urban renewal programme, environmental friendly policies, just to mention a few.
Senator Ajimobi is a God-chosen leader as he is at home with all the segments of the society; traditional rulers, civil servants, market men and women, students, religious groups, the physically challenged etc. in the same vein, Her Excellency, Chief (Mrs) Florence Ajimobi has also being playing positive complementary roles which cut across vital areas of human endeavours.
Let me say with all modesty and with the greatest height of sincerity that Senator Ajimobi deserves another term of four years from the people of Oyo State, considering his track record of he is achievements in office and by the special grace of Almighty Allah, he will break the second term jinx by emerging victorious during the next gubernatorial election in the state.
